Dear Performer(s), Hi. I’m Elda Dellinger of JadeMagick Studios. I toured the country as a Bass/Guitar Player/Vocalist for 5 years in the late 70’s and early 80’s. I’ve owned booking agencies and done Promo-Paks for decades. I have just come out of retirement and re-launched myself as a singles act named Feather. Promote your band! Recently I have taken a Masters Course in Copywriting and now have an arts related website (http://jademagick.com). I decided to promote local musicians. As a copywriter, and a web-designer, I charge $75.00 per hour and can do most simple pages in about 2 hours, hand coding them in notepad. But since I know musicians make good money per night but don’t get very many nights per week, making a living at music without extensive traveling and a good agent is almost impossible. The one thing that will get you more gigs and higher pay, is if you can bring the establishment more business. It’s the reason they hire you. In my experience, mailing lists have always worked. People say they don’t, but they do, especially locally. It’s called Direct Mail and people make hundreds of thousands of dollars every year doing it for various kinds of businesses. That’s what they pay me for. I formed a local band about 13 years ago named Chacoom. With our mailing list we could pack a Monday night. The clubs loved us and even though many of them only hired 2 nights a week we managed to work 6 nights a week often. We got booked often and got top wages for our service because we made money for the establishment. The fans loved us, we always let them know how important they were, by sending them a monthly mailing informing them of where we were performing. So mailing lists work! For only $5.00 a month I’ll list your schedule in JAG’s Zine and send it out monthly, but you will need to supply e-mail lists of your fans. Walk around and collect these from your fans. It makes people feel special when they get monthly information on bands, they’ll almost always choose the place you’re playing rather than some other place. Get more gigs for higher pay!
